Skylight

A private wall calendar for one family's kitchen tablet.

Skylight is an Android app one family made for themselves. It runs on a single tablet on the wall and shows the family's calendar, chores, meal plan, lists and photos. It isn't sold, it isn't on Google Play, and nobody outside the family uses it.

What it does with the family's Google account

• Gmail, read-only. When the family gives an email the “Skylight” label in Gmail (a school newsletter, say, or a party invitation), the tablet reads that email, asks Anthropic's Claude to find the dates in it, and shows the events on the wall. Nothing goes on the calendar until someone taps Add. Emails without the label aren't read.
• Google Tasks. The family's shopping and to-do lists are kept in Google Tasks, so the wall can show them, and add to them and tick things off.

The privacy policy says exactly what is read, where it goes and what is kept.
